The Brewood Woggle

What is the Brewood 10K run(The Woggle)?

The Brewood 10K is a road race, UK Athletics registered, that takes place each September around the beautiful village of Brewood in South Staffordshire.

As well as the main 10K run, for adults, the event also has a selection of children’s races that are run safely away from the public roads on a school sports field.

The course is undulating in nature, running on public roads, through the beautiful countryside around the village of Brewood in South Staffordshire.

The race begins with a massed-start over a short closed-road section. All junctions are marshalled, in accordance with UK Athletics licensing requirements, and there is a lead-out motorbike, a following support vehicle and a water station at half way.

The event finishes in the market square in the village of Brewood, South Staffordshire

All finishers receive a bespoke medal and the male and female winner of each race also receive a trophy that they can take home.

In addition, the event is becoming legendary for its post race tea, coffee and homemade cakes – just what is needed to refuel!

The event is operated by Brewood Scouts Fundraisers, the fundraising arm of the 2nd Brewood Scout Group (charity no. 518527), to raise money for refurbishment of the Scout Headquarters building and ongoing scouting activities and so, in recognition of our Scouting ancestry the event has been nicknamed “The Woggle”.

Fund Raising

In 2008, the 2nd Brewood Scout Group were informed that Staffordshire County Council, on whose land their existing scout hut sits, wanted to sell the land to help balance their budget. Over the last two years our mobilisation of gracious support from within the community as well as an organised campaign of objection, coupled with a change of leading party within the Council, meant that the imminent sale of the land was halted. It is far too soon to know whether this is merely a stay of execution or a full pardon, but either way it has provided the Brewood Scouts Fundraisers, or BSF, (a fundraising committee of the Group) with a respite during which to raise money to ensure the long-term survival of scout headquarters in Brewood and the continuation of our scouting activities should the sale be revived.
